Weekend in Martinborough

Monday, September 17th, 2007

The Old Grocery storeWell I’m still catching up on writing about stuff that I’ve done recently. A few weekends now, some friends, Sibylle, Brian and Ferrida, and I hired a house in Martinborough for the weekend. It was a fantastic place - built from an old grocery store. We got there on the Saturday, dumped our stuff at the house and then went to Alana Winery for some lunch and a bit of wine tasting.

It was then onto a couple more wineries, Te Kairanga and Ata Rangi. I’ve not really drunk much wine since I’ve been here so it was nice to final taste a few different ones - okay - alot of different ones.

Singing Kings and Queens

Sunday, August 5th, 2007

It’s been some time since I posted anything, mainly because I’ve not really been up to much. I did go to see Monarchy the Musical at Circa, last Tuesday. It was a sort of potted history of the british royalty and very funny with some great lyrics.

Theatre Sports

Monday, June 25th, 2007

My friend, Sibylle and I went to see Theatre Sports at Circa on Sunday night. We’d see a short show by The Improvisors at the Big Look See, which was very funny and hoped this was going to be as funny.

The first half was pretty chaotic but it picked up in the second half which some very funny games, including interprative dance. I would definitely and go see something similar again.

Life’s a drag

Sunday, June 3rd, 2007

Well I’ve not posted anything for a while as I’ve been away. I took a trip back to the UK to see the parents and have a bit of a holiday.

My first weekend back in Wellington has been interesting. Last night we went to see my flatmate, Sonny, compete in Miss Drag Wellington 2007 at Imerst. Some fabulous outfits and great performances but I still don’t know who won as I left at 3.30am, too tired to keep going. Anyway Sonny looked very glam in his various outfits and his live performance was excellent.

Update:Sonny came third!

Trip to Pluto

Saturday, April 7th, 2007

I went to see Pluto at San Francisco Bathhouse on Thursday night. It’ a great venue for live music - much better than Mighty, Mighty was last week. I’d not heard any of Pluto’s music before but it was an awesome gig. They also played a few ‘exclusives’ that they will be recording soon and if these were anything to go by their next album is going to be good too.

My friend, Sibylle, and I are on a month long abstinence from coffee and alcohol, so I was strictly on soda and lime for the evening. Even without the alcohol though, it was a great evening!

Aaaah - Woolly Jumpers

Saturday, March 31st, 2007

Sheep in Civic SquareAt lunch yesterday, I went to see installation by Gregor Kregar in Civic Square. It consists of 12 sheep dressed in brightly coloured woollen jumpers. They were really cute.

Mummies and music

Friday, March 30th, 2007

Well last night, I combined a visit to the Eygptian exhibition at Te Papa with the launch of Age Pryor’s new album at Mighty, Mighty. The exhibition was really well done, focusing on the funeral customs of the period. It’s not a big exhibition but quite detailed with some really interesting stuff, like mummified animals and translations from Books of the Dead.

The album launch was okay but it wasn’t the greatest venue for it. The first act was a guy singing with an accoustic guitar, who it was really heard to hear. Age Pryor was really good but again there was still quite alot of background noise and it was baking hot in there.

Untouched World

Friday, March 30th, 2007

On Tuesday, I went to the opening of the new Untouched World store in Wellington. There were lots of gorgeous clothes, though way above my price range. I also got to introduced to Helen Clarke, the Prime Minister of New Zealand. It’s probably not that exciting to most Kiwis but my Mum was impressed!

Anyway, it was a good evening with lovely wine and nibbles. The goody bag was pretty great too, including Green & Blacks chocolate, lip balm and a lipstick.

Mount Vic - veni, vidi, vici

Wednesday, March 28th, 2007

View from Mount VicOkay so it wasn’t quite conquered but on Sunday, I did manage to walk all the way up Mount Victoria. I’m pretty proud of this and still slight amazed that I made it, considering that about 9months ago, I was walking with a stick.
